Comparison with GHS Fast Fret Apr 18, 2011
By S. Bailey
"Chkyer6"
I like my fingers to slide smoothly over the strings and I also want to protect the strings and frets from corrosive wear. That's why I've always used GHS Fast Fret. When I saw Fender's Slick String Cleaner, I had to give it a try.
Pro's: 1. Better design than Fast Fret in that it covers the entire width of a standard-sized neck. Just one sweep down the neck and all your strings are done! 2. Fender's case is much more convenient. Just pop the cover back on and you're done. With Fast Fret, you have to place the stick back in a cylindrical case and cover it with a flimsy lid. If you don't, the lubricant stick will dry out. 3. The lubricant in Fender's product seems to last longer on the strings.
Con's: 1. So far, none.
Fast Fret is still a great product and it comes with a nice wipe-down cloth. I just like the design of Fender's product, and the lubricant seems to have more resiliency than Fast Fret. If Fast Fret were to re-design their product, then I think the real issue would come down to the chemical content of the two products and how it performs on the instrument itself. Both products are supposed to lubricate or at least be safe for the fretboard. There are a lot of opinions out there about what kind of lubricant one should use on their fret board. I would have to assume that both Fender and GHS have done extensive tests on how their products affect various types of fretboards. I'm really not worried about any negative affects these products may have on my guitars, but others may want more research on the subject.

Lube job Jul 12, 2012
By Mr67galaxie500 It gives the top of the strings a slight coat of lube. It really didn't do a that great of a job actually cleaning them. So, I stick to my old method of using some watered down window cleaner and a sheet of tissue paper. I learned that trick from an old guitar fogie. Then I smear this stuff on top to keep them from oxidizing. So it was worth buying and keeping in the bag.
