4Mmmmm, Lemony Fresh!  Dec 14, 2010
By Wayne M. Simpson "The Stag Hunter"
This is a lemon oil used for cleaning and conditioning the rosewood fingerboards of guitars. This only gets done once a year on the average guitar, so if you're like me, this one bottle will supply you for many lifetimes. Other than that, it is what it is and does what it says. The applicator contains a dispensing valve so push down hard to open it when you want the oil to flow.

The label says NOT to use this product on maple fingerboards. Doesn't say why, but my guess is it will discolor them, so be forewarned.

5High Quality Oil  Jul 21, 2007
By Tony P
Overall, this is a very high-quality oil for rosewood fretboards. The bottle comes with an soft felt applicator at the top, and is easy to hold while oiling. The bottle is even bigger than what the picture suggests, making it a pleasant surprise. I don't think I will ever run out of oil for a longgg time.

3Mixed blessing  Sep 04, 2012
By B.Q.Nelson
Having some guitars for 25 years or more, I have some gunky buildup piled up
against the frets that although harmless and does not interfere with playing,
looks grimy and awful. For some people this is a badge of courage since it leaves a happy
trail of evidence showing just how much of the fretboard you've been using. But,
once you've played enough to not care about such vanities and would just
rather have a clean fretboard, then products like this one offer an option.
So, I recently tried this product on a guitar fretboard that hadn't been cleaned
in years of playing. The 65 is very lightly scented which was some relief to
discover. In fact, at normal play distance I can't smell the product on the
fretboard even immediately after using it. The other good news is, it had no negative
impact on feel or play-ability of the fretboard. All mine are rosewood
so I cannot comment about how it might be on maple or ebony. On the mixed blessing
side of goodness, this stuff is not very aggressive as a cleaner. I found I needed to use a
rough cloth (used a terry shop towel like those sold in packs at auto stores) and a lot
of rubbing. Even then, I had to used the edge of a pick to clear some of the heavier deposits -
carefully so as not to scrape up the fretboard, then used the 65 to finish the job
of cleaning up after that. The upside of this mild cleaner is that
it does nothing to harm or change the fretboard's finish/surface. There's no greasy or
oily feel to the frets after use...as if there's no residue left at all from the lemon oil.
So, I gave it three stars. It would be nice if made the gunk just melt away but maybe the fretboard
surface would go with it. I don't know and I have not tried any other fretboard cleaners so I
can't say if something else works any better while still being as safe to the wood.

4Decent product, instructions could be more detailed.  Jul 31, 2012
By Romanza
After buying some other polishes for the guitar body, I wanted something for the fretboard.
The Dunlop lemon oil seems to give good results (but blotchy the first time). I really like the built in dabber. The way I received this was the loose bottle with only a few sentences of instructions on the bottle. I assume there are no other instructions.

Used this on a classical guitar fretboard. Even wiping off after applying per the instructions didn't get all the product off since its an oil. Even though they tell you to wipe it off, you have to let it dry and soak in although they don't tell you this. Six hours later on a hot summer day and the neck is still wet. Coming back to it and wiping again I finally got it to dry. The neck continues to exude oil in a few spots after wiping off after six hours which requires another wipe down. Finally it is dry. I'm pretty experienced with polishing and cleaning guitars & I did a good job of wiping each fret area completely on a clean neck but now that its dry I see a blotchy appearance to the fretboard. Perhaps another application is in order but again the directions don't state you have to do it twice. Perhaps I did something wrong. Looked on Dunlop's site & no information besides the instructions. Dunlop has a video section specifically for this product, however there were no videos available.

As another reviewer mentioned this is probably something you only do annually so the wait isn't a big deal, but you certainly can't expect to play the guitar after you use the product until the neck dries completely so consider the dry time when you use the product. If you are just looking to clean the neck and not treat it with oil, there are probably easier choices. Would be nice if Dunlop mentioned the dry-time, but even with this it is a good product. Lemon smell is pleasant and not overpowering.
Aside from the blotchy appearance the unfinished wood does look darker and alas protected. I'll have to give it another go and I'm sure I can get rid of the blotchy look.

All in all seems like a good product and good value.

3Dunlop Ultimate Lemon Oil  Mar 09, 2012
By Mike Curl "Redonkilaus"
I bought this product as an add on to the most excellent Dunlop guitar maintenance kit. The product itself is excellent (e.g. the lemon oil). The problem I have is with the applicator. You remove the cap, and there is a wick for the lemon oil. I found you have to squeeze the bottle to get the oil to wick. There were not instructions specifying anything special except to shake the bottle - so I assume I am working the bottle correctly. I would prefer to just have an open bottle so I can apply the product to my own cloth for application.
