Important accessory for a music stand Jul 29, 2010
By Harry Littell When I ordered this accessory shelf the description made it sound it might not be usable on many stands. Frankly, I can't see how it won't work with just about any stand, meaning only in some rare cases. Also is the objection that it has the appearance of being easily breakable. It might be but you would have to do something way out of the ordinary to do break it. It is just plastic, but that does not mean it doesn't serve its function completely well.
Regardless of all the apprehensions and really unfounded concerns of breaking and so on, it immediately removes the clutter from the stand and places frequently used items quickly within reach. This is really useful when on a stand such as at home so you don't go reaching for tuners and so on. It keeps everything nicely within reach.
Because it is plastic so it could break, but I have had it for some time now and the stand has hit the floor and it works just fine. If there is one complaint it is that there is no lip or enclosure at the ends so if the stand tilts everything (pencils, markers, etc) fall off, but they would do this anyway if left beneath the music. Yet that is easily fixed by using some of that sticky putty for hanging pictures under a small shallow plastic tray inserted on the bottom.
I think this type of accessory is a must for any stand. I've seen professional stands with this shelf built in, mine didn't have one so I went looking and found this great item. I am completely happy with it. It makes the whole music process just that more enjoyable and improves one's ease when studying and practicing. Plus it removes quickly and easily when folding up the stand.
It is a great thing and can't be beat for all the ease of use, flexibility, and functionality it provides.

Interferes with turning pages Dec 18, 2011
By PhiDeck I was disappointed by this item. As mentioned by others it is a cheap plastic extrusion. Not previously mentioned is that it has longitudinal ribs that interfere with turning the pages of one's music book. I ended up moving it from the music stand's bottom lip to the top edge, hanging over the back, where it can still hold pencils (and my Korg tuner) but does not interfere with turning pages. My hope is that it can remain in that position when I acquire a music stand lamp.

A great addition to your stand Jan 19, 2008

This shelf is a great little addition to your Manhasset stand. Will hold pencils, guitar picks, conducting batons, and the like. I've even put a flute on mine! It won't hold anything heavy, though. If you have a Manhasset stand, get one. (I even got two--they can clip to each other so I have two shelves, one below the other!)

Good idea, OK excecution Jan 03, 2012
By E. Sikorski The idea for this shelf is very good. Using it for pencils, oils, sticky notes, tuners, etc. is a great thought. However, the product itself is made of cheap flimsy plastic that too easily comes off the stand. I have knocked it off (or the stuff on it) by accident a few times by bending over to pick up mutes. There are ridges on the top of the holder that can get in the way of turning music. The shelf itself is 16" long and a little less than 2 1/2" high.

Keeping the "accessories" handy Sep 20, 2010
By Captian Raul So I play in a Mandolin orchestra. We get new music every week, and the director has us add notes to the sheet music. Plus, sometimes the music is for multiple parts,...Pencil and highlighters are a must and you either keep them on the floor, or when you have them on the music stand,..they go to the floor when you turn pages, voila! an accessory shelf. Slides right on, holds my pencil, highlighter, picks, and I can clip my tuner to it.
Some great ideas are the simplest,
I got this because I saw others with them. I'm betting we'll all have them before long.
