Lots of complex overtones. Aug 12, 2011
By Ronaldinho These strings are not for everyone. Like all 80/20 strings, they can sound very metallic - but they also have lovely overtones that can make a standard six string acoustic evocative of a 12-string guitar.
What's indisputable is that these are high-quality strings, which will last a long time. If you like the 80/20 sound, you should be happy with these, especially at this price. But be aware - these strings have a very different sound than most phosphor bronze strings. You might be startled by it. You might not like it.
Or you might love it.

Very nice strings, especially for beginners and young fingers. My 10 year old loves the feel of these strings. Very good product and excellent price on Amazon.com

not my taste Sep 24, 2011
By A. M. Steiner These Martin strings (M170) aren't bad. They just are not the sound I was looking for. I ended up like the Ernie Ball Earthwood extra light instead. The Martin's are little shallow on the low end unlike the Ernie Ball. Other people will love them though. They are easy to play.

Friendly strings for your fingers, the perfect choice for amateurs and dilettantes Mar 02, 2013
By D. Maarek Yes of course, the heavier the strings, the better the sound. So does Extra-Light mean the worst quality ? May be. May be the worst compared to the medium and thicker strings... And yet the quality of the Extra-Light is still very good, definitely if you are an amateur. But who else than an amateur would use these strings, since a professional would have hard strengthened fingertips and would not suffer at all from heavy strings.
If you happen to play only a few times a month, why suffer from hurting fingers after a few minutes playing with medium strings, put on light or extra-light and just enjoy your playing. Your ears will suffer much less than would your fingers with thicker strings, and you will be able to play whenever you want and as long as you want without being obliged to stop because of your fingers.
And of course, Martin quality is always a sure bet, is it not ?
