I absolutely love this guitar! The sound quality is exceptional with or without the electronics. Its handsome wood inlays are beautifully designed to compliment the Sunburst style. I have a couple friends who play in bands and they said they'd use it in a heartbeat. I replaced my Jose' Feliciano classical/electric guitar with this one and I must say that this is 10x the guitar. It is much easier to play and the tone quality is far superior. I would recommend this guitar to any person but especially to the new enthusiast. The right guitar can make all the difference when just starting out and this is definitely the right guitar.

This is my 3rd addition of Ovation after the first Celebrity 9 years ago, the Ovation iDEA CC54i-PL 3 years ago, and now my first Elite series!
As always, Ovation is very famous with their bowl bodies that are made from Lyrachord, a durable yet lightweight composite material designed to efficiently transmit vibration. According to Ovation, a Lyrachord body has a smooth interior surface that reflects sound better than porous wood. Somehow they are quite true in design, and I totally agree to that.
I am a high traffic musician in church playing guitar, bass and drum. Unfortunately, being in church and bringing your own instruments, required some level of sacrifice that you have to 'share' your instruments with others. Often times, it is heart breaking for seeing that your instruments, especially some dedicated expensive gears like guitar, getting 'knock' on wood, quite frequent of times. So my wooded body guitars always turn out half broken after using for some years in church setting, and ended up 'donated' to the church or small cell group.
So the plastic, Lyrachord body helps. It is virtually indestructible, plastic-liked bowls won't warp, chip, crack, or split. I used to have scracth pad applied to the wooden body guitar, such as this Scratch Pad Guitar Finish Protector - Black, which is no longer needed anymore with the Ovation.
Right, let's get back to Ovation 2778 AX Standard Elite. It has the deep contour which is the latest in addition to Ovation family. Comparing with the older Ovations, contour is nice to hold and play while sitting. You don't need the anti-slide pad applied to the bowl, like the old deep or mid-depth which are more prone to slide. The sound is comparing to the deep bowl, which is nice.
It has a OP-Pro preamp which is usually available for the Elite line above thousand dollar gap.
And to many people's question: where is this unit made? It is made in Korea. I hope it helps as most of cheaper Celebrity, even some at the price range of this could be made in China.
